AZ RV Park in Southern Arizona

There’s a lot going on at Desert Gardens RV Park Cooperative!

Hello folks - here are some newsy notes giving you information on some of the programs that will be included at Desert Gardens RV Park Cooperative for the 2010-2011 Winter Season:

We are going to be having Yoga Classes this season. Kim of Halfmoon Yoga will be the instructor and programs of Hatha Yoga technique: breathing exercises and strengthening poses benefitting the body will last 1 hour each. Sessions will include programs dealing with high blood pressure, pulse rate, anxiety, calmness, sleep, circulation, gastrointestinal, posture, balance, immunity, concentration, core strength, energy, mood, and stretching all muscle groups. There will be a tea ceremony if time permits.  Bring a Yoga mat, any type of blanket or pillow, and maybe a Yoga block, and your energy. All of the items may be purchased at your favorite discount item stores. Kim will bring the Yoga straps. There is a fee of $5 per class associated with this program.

We have heard that Kay McCallum will be offering her talents with her Paper Craft Class again this year. No previous experience is needed. No supplies or equipment either. Kay has all that will be used. (And, Stephen can tell you she is packing everything but the kitchen sink!)  She charges a small fee to cover her card stock, envelopes, glue, tape, etc. The classes will be small (6 to 8) so she can give individual attention. Kay and Stephen will be here in November and classes will include Christmas Cards, Envelopes, Gift Tags, and Gift Bags with matching enclosures.

Gail Lewis will be arriving in December this season and will again have her genealogy class in addition to her water color class. For genealogy she suggests you have with you the names, dates, birth place, marriage, death, and maiden names of families you wish to research. It will be fun to see how far back we can go and what we can find out about our ancestors and families. (Maybe we’ll find some skeletons in those closets.)

Iris will be here teaching her classes in Stained Glass again for the umpteenth season. Iris has been at the park since we began building it. We purchased 142 acres here in 1996 and designed the first 84 sites, systems, etc. Soon after, Iris and Harold arrived for a look-see and chose a site they would winter on for many years. Iris and Harold began the stained glass classes and it has grown into one of the busiest and most artistic classes we have. Everyone who joins the stained glass class loves it and Iris S. The park has equipment and smaller glass pieces for beginners to work on. There is no fee.

The Wood Shop which was started by Harold S, way back when, is looking great. Ivan F. and Bob A. have it in fantastic working order. Eric and Marcy bought some new equipment, so it is an extremely functional shop for your small projects. The guys keep it so picked up and clean that the wives wonder why they can’t do the same in their home/RV. (Why is that?)

Bob M. will again be having a Gourding Class this season, probably beginning in December. Last season Connie S. was an avid carver and became so proficient at it that she was helping others with their projects. At the craft sale we ooo’d and ahh’d at the wonders that these artists could work with a gourd. Bob is going to try to pack a few more gourds into his RV so the class will have plenty of different shapes and sizes to choose from. (Donna M. will just not be able to bring as many clothes this year. We all know how that is !!!)

There will be plenty of other things to do, the guys will meet in the morning for coffee and go out to the 4 horseshoe pits.  After their games they’ll have coffee again, and if anyone has a problem you’ll have more suggestions than you can shake a stick at…..and more whether you want them or not. The pool tables and card tables in the game room are an active spot too. We have some pool cues or bring your own. There is also a table shuffleboard and Foosball and couches to relax on and watch the flat screen TV.  The fitness center is a very popular spot, especially early a.m. Folks using the equipment and watching another flat screen TV while they do their “tough stuff.”

The quilters will be heading to the activity building and setting up their tables for their winter projects. They displayed their projects in the works at the craft sale and, my oh my, what beautiful, original designs and quilts were displayed.

If you have a specialty, do let us know about it and perhaps you would like to mentor a class of your liking. We’re open for suggestions always. Of course, we’ll have our pot lucks, holiday dinners and leftover specials, BBQ’s, card games plus, Donna M’s Line Dancing, Bingo, and as many other activities that we can think of.

I’ll close for now and hope to see you all at Desert Gardens for this coming winter season. Just give us a call or email and we’ll have a spot for you.  “Happy Tales” and “Happy Trails”.

News and Events from 2009 - 2010

This season began with a wonderful Thanksgiving pot luck. Eric and Marcy bought 70 lbs of turkey and the campers did their usual culinary skills with the turkeys, sides, salads, breads and desserts. Several days later the gals made and served homemade turkey noodle soup, with butter rolls, and since it was the first of the month, the park gifted us with a sheet cake and the gals brought the ice cream. We all came and feasted again. We’re getting ready again for the Holiday celebration on Dec 24th with a Hor de ourves pot luck and a small gift exchange.

A huge Holiday dinner will be the afternoon of Dec. 25th with turkey and ham provided again by Marcy and Eric, with all of us doing our favorite pot luck items. New Years Eve we have a professional entertainer coming to entertain us with the crooning songs we all love and then he’ll “kick it up” with some faster music. We’ll again do a pot luck of canapés, snacks, etc. while listening and dancing to the music. New Year’s Day we will rest or gather in the activity building for whatever.

Our activities so far are: Walking/hiking, (the walking path around our park is 2 ˝ miles!) stained glass classes, bingo, horseshoes, exercise class, crafting greeting cards, poker night – cribbage, cards & billiards, etc. golfing at Oasis Golf Course (other courses too), gourding (crafting gourds into art forms), game nights, wood working shop, hot tub, swimming pool, tag alongs to many restaurants, theatres, farms, and many places of interest, including outlet shops and malls close by. We are expecting more guests who are volunteering their skills to make this season fantastic.

We hope you can all join us for some of our activities, plus enjoy our beautiful, quiet and restful park here at Desert Gardens.

We hope to see you soon!
Marcy and Eric Nelson, managers
